Don’t Get Tangled In Red Tape
Did you know that fundraising raffles are considered games of chance?
Many states tightly regulate raffles and failure to comply with raffle laws is considered a serious offense. Therefore it is very important for your charitable group to find out your state’s raffle laws, and whether or not you can hold a raffle at all. Even if games of chance are not allowed in your state, there may be other ways in which your group can hold a fundraiser and sell tickets, so don’t give up.
Click on the map for a summary of raffle laws and regulations on a state-by-state basis, where available. Keep in mind that these pages are only a summary. To find the actual state law, you must follow the link from the summary, where such a link exists, or call your state offices and request information directly.
